Edo – Ora sai cosa mangi
Fifth edition winner
Edo is a startup founded in 2013 by four young university graduates, three of them IT specialists and the other a food technologist. Their goal is to help consumers make informed decisions about the foods they buy every day and serve on their tables. The idea stems from the awareness that for the average consumer interpreting food labels is actually pretty complex. There is too much information, often unclear, maybe written in small print, too many acronyms and text that is easily misinterpreted. All this confusion renders the consumer easy prey to false alarms and claims that are increasingly part of our lives, for example on the internet. There was a need, therefore, for a practical and reliable tool that could guide people in buying healthy products and suited to the nutritional needs of each.
ACTIVITIES
Edo is an app for smartphones that can gather the information on food labels, process them and return them to the user in a form that is easier to understand.
The “Edo index” returns a score of 0 to 10. It is an innovative and distinctive element based on the assessment of nutritional values and ingredients in connection with the user’s nutritional needs: the higher the score the more the product is healthy and compatible with the user.
“Pros and cons” includes the main characteristics of the product, positive, negative, or simply of interest.
“Alternatives” offers a list of alternative products that are healthier.
TIPS
Edo can be contacted Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, but being a digital startup its work never stops and so the team is always available for any information at the email address.
