Animazione Stop-motion in Bologna
@ Animazione Stop-motionSeventh edition winner
Animazione Stop-motion in Bologna is a project curated by Matteo Nicolò Burani, a field professional and co-founder of the animation collective Studio Croma: an independent film production company focussed on short films, music videos and advertising in stop-motion animation in Bologna. Each work of the studio is a combination of craftsmanship and technology, creativity and precision. Some of its most important works are: “La Valigia” (the suitcase) short film nominated for the Nastri d’Argento and the David di Donatello, “La leggenda della torre” (The legend of the tower) short film winner of the Emilia Romagna 2015 competition and four animated videos for the Zecchino d’Oro in collaboration with RAI.
ACTIVITIES
Stop-motion animation has its roots in reality, captured and modified in every image through a camera, to transpose movement and action in video. This technique starts from an inanimate object, which is then made part of a set and comes to life thanks to the hands of a professional figure called “animator”: following the rules of traditional animation, the object is moved photos after photo, thus suggesting the illusion of movement. The process may seem simple but there’s a lot of knowledge behind it: knowledge of the construction of scenic elements, puppet and props and their staging, reconstructing or modifying reality through skill in craftsmanship. Each story is supported by a screenplay and storyboard, and also by optical technology, cameras and animation software, as well as post-production work, which complete the final product, offering the video to the viewer.
