Monile by Stefania Bandinu
@ Monile di Stefania BandinuSixth edition winner
Stefania Bandinu was born in Sardinia, then moved to Bologna where she graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and History of Art at the city’s University. Since 2012, she has been designing and handcrafting narrative jewels. Indeed, her collections originate from her life experiences, her travels in the company of her plants and her notebooks full of notes. Her pieces are fragments of a story, contemporary amulets that still carry the ancient sense of jewels, inspired by light and memory.
ACTIVITIES
Each series of jewels starts from a slow process of accumulation of paper or textile materials and is based on a single theme: “Janas” is dedicated to the culture of Sardinian weaving, “Galattica” looks at the sky by using fragments of celestial maps, while “Nebbia” depicts horizons with no boundaries, typical of marine and plain landscapes. After being collected, papers and fabrics are combined with metals such as silver, brass and aluminium worked with traditional techniques to revive shapes and functions of classic jewellery in a contemporary style. Her collections have been displayed in several international fairs and are distributed in different countries.
