The Nuovo Cinema Mandrioli was born in 2007 from the passion of Morris Donini, who has been in love with the world of cinema since childhood. After managing the cinema in Castiglione dei Pepoli, in 2003 he reopened the Nuovo Cinema Mandrioli in Cà de Fabbri (Minerbio - Bologna), a provincial cinema with 400 seats. Over the years, this place has become a meeting point for hundreds of people, not only for first screenings, but also for the weekly review of arthouse films, attracting audiences of all ages and making them passionate about art-house cinema, through meetings with directors, actors and cineforums. In 2014 the Cinema Italia in Castenaso also reopened, repeating the same great success as the previous cinema, followed in 2019 by the Cinema Massarenti in Molinella.
SPECIAL PROJECT 2020
The project was born as a form of reaction to the closure of performance venues, to revive film culture and social relations in the difficult context of the pandemic. Taking advantage of the possibility to organise open-air shows, for the first time a series of film screenings was scheduled for the whole summer period, through the creation of a summer arena in Castenaso and a drive-in in Molinella. The summer arena offered films for all audiences: the best of the film season, arthouse films, family films and numerous summer premieres, as well as concerts and events organised by the municipality. The Drive in was an innovative and unique project, combining a return to the 1950s with cutting-edge technology: 70 large car parking spaces, giant screen, dedicated FM frequency, digital projection, American Bar with WhatsApp ordering service and delivery to one’s car. In addition to the season's biggest hits and summer premieres, numerous themed screenings were organised: vintage nights, classic car rallies, night events with specific dress codes and audience involvement, concerts before screenings, entertainment provided by the staff...not forgetting the cheerful team of window cleaners. Moreover, this was the only drive-in and one of the few open-air screens authorised by Warner Bros to present the world premiere of 'Tenet'.
