Fifth edition winner

Papero Editore, the trade name of the Cartaviva association, was born in Piacenza in 2015, after a meeting between the writer Gabriele Dadati and the painter Davide Corona. The importance of the art of papercraft across the world and the model of ethical editing (high quality ecological paper, printing by social cooperatives with disadvantaged workers) that aims for direct contact with readers are the two principal directions in which Papero Editore operates. The final aim is to offer the highest quality possible, in the texts and in the presentation, publishing handbound books printed in limited runs on high quality paper. The main series are: “Ore Piccole” (“Little Hours”) – unedited texts by contemporary writers alongside prints of works of great artists, “Scritti d’arte piacentina di Stefano Fugazza” (“Writings on the Piacentine art of Stefano Fugazza”) – monographs on the protagonists of the art of Piacenza and “Extra omnes” – translations into dialect of masterpieces, unedited theatrical works and others.

ACTIVITIES

“Classics online”, the new project of Papero, is a platform on which every month a different text not in the catalogue is presented and two campaigns are launched: one social and the other press.
Readers are invited to “adopt” the book, reserving their own copy (either paper copy or ebook). Thanks to the elimination of parts of the production chain (promoter, distributor, bookseller: in all almost 62% of the cover price), the volume breaks even with a smaller production run and generates
immediate liquidity for the publisher, instead of after 6 months as normally happens in the industry. As soon as the campaign reaches its target, the book is printed and sent to the readers. A last circulation is available for selling in bookshops, fairs and online.
